Eep! Squeak! Hello. If you've got this far you're probably wondering how to send us your stuff?
*SUBMISSIONS FOR ISSUE 3 NOW CLOSED*
Theme: Transformation
We encourage you to interpret the theme as loosely and creatively as you wish. We're looking for writing that is unexpected and which looks at the world in a slightly different way. We accept both prose and poetry. The closing date for submissions is Friday 7th November.
We would love you to send us your work, but we do have a few guidelines on how to do so. If you follow these
guidelines it will make us very happy dormice.
- Send your submissions to [email protected]
- Submissions should be no more than 2000 words.
- We're happy to accept multiple submissions but please don't send us more than two pieces of work at
a time. Please also be aware that if you send us two submissions it is unlikely that we will choose to
publish both of them. This is so that we can promote as many different writers as possible.
- We're looking for work that is currently unpublished. So please don't send us anything that has been
published previously elsewhere.
- Please send your work in a word document and remember to give your work a title. Please don't
use the theme as the title for your piece (ie. don't simply call it 'Transformation'). This is to save us confusion, but also because it makes your work stand out more.
- If you wish you can also send us a short bio, which we will put at the bottom of your published work. It doesn't have to be long - a couple of sentences is fine. If you're happy to you can also include any links to your personal blogs or twitter accounts, etc.
We will be in touch as soon as possible after the closing date to let you know if your work has been selected.
Book Reviews
If you’re interested in writing some book reviews for our well, the best thing to do would be to drop us an email and attach a sample review of a book you’ve read. It should preferably have been published within the last year or so. We’re open to different genres and styles of novels, short stories or poetry. We’re fairly flexible on the word limit – anywhere between 500 and 1000 words is fine. If we enjoy your review, we’ll publish it on our site and you can call yourself an honorary dormouse.
Artwork
We’re always on the lookout for illustrators or photographers to make our well look cosy. If you’re interested in doing some artwork for the site, drop us an email linking us to some of your work and we'll be in touch.
The Treacle Well is run on a voluntary basis, so we're unable to pay writers or artists for their work. All we have to offer you is a fairly nice residence for your stuff. If you're lucky the dormice might share their treacle with you. We certainly promise to promote your writing or artwork as much as we can.
So, that's all the boring stuff. Our chief dormouse needs a nap after all this technical chat. We don't really like rules here, but if you follow these boring technical ones then we give you permission to break as many rules as you like in your writing!
